These distinctive aloe trees were traditionally used by the San people to craft quivers for their arrows, lending the forest both cultural and visual significance.

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walking tour of Lüderitz, a coastal town rich in history and striking architecture. Founded in 1884 and named after the Bremen merchant Adolf Lüderitz, the town marks the beginnings of German South West Africa. Its colourful Art Nouveau buildings and rugged Atlantic setting create a unique blend of European heritage and African coastline.

Travel by open 4x4 vehicle into the heart of Sossusvlei, often called the “red centre” of the Namib. After a light picnic, set out on a memorable walk to Deadvlei—a surreal, dune-ringed clay pan famous for its ancient, skeletal camelthorn trees standing stark against the white earth and deep blue sky.

Afterwards, continue your journey with far-reaching views toward the mighty Brandberg as you travel into the captivating Erongo Region. Here, take part in a meaningful cultural encounter with the San people, learning the remarkable skills and strategies they have used for generations to live in this arid environment. Despite the pressures of modern life, many San communities work to preserve their traditions, knowledge, and connection to the land—making this experience both insightful and unforgettable.

Bushmen (san) rock painting depicting human figures, Drakensberg mountains, South Africa

Today begins with a cultural highlight in Twyfelfontein, home to world-famous San rock engravings—remarkable stone-carved stories that offer rare insight into Namibia’s earliest inhabitants. Explore this extraordinary open-air gallery, where ancient wildlife motifs and symbolic markings have endured for thousands of years.

Nearby, discover two striking natural formations: the Organ Pipes, a series of volcanic dolerite columns resembling organ pipes, and the dramatic Burnt Mountain, named for its dark, scorched-looking rock layers that glow in the shifting desert light.

After these Damaraland highlights, continue your journey toward one of Africa’s most rewarding wildlife destinations—Etosha National Park. Arrive at your lodge near the park and settle in, ready for the safari days ahead.

    Overnight: Etosha area (2 nights)

As you explore the park, keep your eyes on the road ahead and especially near the waterholes, where animals often gather in large numbers throughout the day.

With a little luck, you may encounter elephants, lions, and rhinos, along with giraffes, zebras, antelope, and a wide variety of birdlife. Between sightings, take in the breathtaking scenery: endless horizons, wide-open plains, and the striking white expanse of the Etosha salt pan, which creates a truly unique safari backdrop.

    Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

  • Day 14: Etosha – Tsumeb

Today delivers a true safari highlight: you’ll cross Etosha National Park in your tour vehicle, travelling from the south toward the eastern side of the park. This full-day journey showcases the remarkable variety of one of Africa’s most important wildlife reserves—moving through stark salt pans, wide open savannah, and denser bushveld landscapes.

Along the way, wildlife sightings are often exceptional. Keep watch for large elephant herds, as well as zebra, giraffe, lions, and a range of antelope species gathering at the park’s many waterholes. With luck, you may also spot a rhino or even the elusive leopard. Regular stops at prime viewpoints allow for outstanding photography and relaxed time to observe animal behaviour.

Your experienced English-speaking local safari guide will share insights into Etosha’s unique ecosystem and help bring each encounter to life. In the afternoon, you exit the park on the opposite side, where you reconnect with your tour leader and continue to Tsumeb.

What food should I try in Namibia?
Culinary Influences

Namibian cuisine is shaped by indigenous traditions and strong German and Southern African influences—so you’ll find everything from hearty game dishes and fire-cooked stews to excellent breads, sausages, and café culture in coastal towns.

Local Classics to Taste
  • Kapana – Namibia’s iconic street food: freshly grilled meat, usually served with spicy seasoning and a simple salsa.

  • Biltong & droëwors – cured meat and dried sausage snacks (often made with beef or game).

  • Oshifima / mahangu pap – a staple porridge (often served with meat or sauces), widely enjoyed across the country.

  • Potjiekos – a slow-cooked, fire-style stew (comfort food at its best).

  • Seasonal treats (when available): Lüderitz oysters, kabeljou fish, and omajowa mushrooms after rains in parts of the country.

What drinks should I try in Namibia?
  • Windhoek Lager / Tafel Lager – classic Namibian beers and a big part of local culture.

  • Oshikundu (Ontaku) – a traditional fermented millet drink found especially in northern Namibia (often homemade/market-sold).

Dining on safari

At many lodges and camps, meals are typically included and combine international standards with local flavours. If you have dietary requirements, it’s best to share them in advance so your hosts can cater comfortably.

If you tell me which stops are on your itinerary (e.g., Swakopmund, Sossusvlei, Etosha, Lüderitz), I’ll tailor a “What to Try Where” list for each location.

Getting There & Getting Around: Namibia
Flights to Namibia

Most international travellers reach Namibia via Windhoek (WDH). From the UK and much of Europe, routes typically connect through major hubs such as Johannesburg or Cape Town, with onward flights into Windhoek. We’ll recommend the most efficient, comfortable connections based on your itinerary, travel style, and preferred flight times.

Time Zone

Namibia operates on GMT+2, which makes travel from the UK and Europe relatively smooth—especially compared to long-haul destinations with larger time differences. You can settle in quickly and start enjoying the journey without heavy jet lag.

Getting Around Namibia

Namibia is best experienced overland, because the landscapes are part of the adventure.

  • Private driver-guide (recommended for comfort): Relax and enjoy the scenery while your guide handles the long distances, navigation, and local insights—ideal for a seamless, premium experience.

  • Self-drive (popular with European travellers): Namibia is one of Africa’s best self-drive destinations, with good main roads and clear routes. Some areas include gravel roads and remote stretches, so a 4×4 may be recommended depending on your itinerary.

  • Flights & scenic air options: For time-saving between far regions, domestic flights and scenic flights can be arranged on certain routes—perfect for travellers wanting to maximise time and elevate the experience.

At Ngwenya African Travel, we manage the logistics end-to-end—airport transfers, vehicles, route planning, guides, and flight connections—so you can explore Namibia comfortably, safely, and worry-free.

Entry Requirements & Health Information: Namibia
Passport & Visa Information

Before travelling to Namibia, please ensure your passport:

  • Is valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival, and

  • Has at least 3 blank pages for entry/exit stamps.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Some travellers are visa-exempt, while others may need to arrange a visa in advance or use Namibia’s Visa-on-Arrival / online application system (where applicable). We recommend confirming the latest requirements via your government’s official travel advisory and Namibia’s official visa platform.

Vaccination & Health Guidelines

There is no yellow fever risk in Namibia, but proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required if you are arriving from, or transiting (often 12+ hours) through, a country with yellow fever risk.

We recommend you:

  • Stay up to date with routine vaccinations, and

  • Consult your healthcare provider or a travel clinic for personalised advice (including guidance on malaria prevention for certain regions of Namibia).

For general guidance, reputable resources include CDC Travelers’ Health and TravelHealthPro (UK).

At Ngwenya African Travel, we’re happy to support your pre-travel planning so you can arrive well-prepared for a safe, smooth, and worry-free Namibia journey.
