    Flight to South Africa, Namibia.

Today marks the beginning of your journey. Whether you’re on a local or international flight, you’ll depart from your home country en route to Africa. Sit back, relax, and let the anticipation build as you head toward the adventure of a lifetime.

Tonight, you’ll be on your overnight flight, dreaming of the African horizons awaiting you.

  • Day 2: Welcome to Namibia

A safari vehicle and passengers very close to a couple of lions, panthera leo, drinking at a water hole.

After landing at Windhoek International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your private NAS guide and begin your Namibian journey immediately. Travel southwest through the dramatic Khomas Hochland highlands, then descend the Great Escarpment into the vast Namib Desert below. Along the way, you’ll pause for a scenic picnic lunch in a carefully selected spot, surrounded by Namibia’s wide-open beauty.

Arrive at your desert lodge in the mid-afternoon and settle in for a two-night stay—the perfect base to explore the iconic landscapes of Sossusvlei. The rest of the afternoon is yours to unwind: relax at the lodge, take in the tranquil dune views, and soak up the stillness of the desert.

As the light softens, join the lodge’s sundowner drive, a signature Namibian experience with unforgettable golden-hour vistas.

Your accommodation offers a relaxed, stylish atmosphere set among the dunes, with sweeping views over the red sands of Sossusvlei and spectacular sunsets almost year-round. Meals and selected local beverages are included, ensuring a seamless, comfort-first experience from the moment you arrive.

    Travel Distance: approx. 370 km
    Travel Time: approx. 4h45 minutes.

  • Day 3: Sossusvlei & Deadvlei at Sunrise

Fallen dead tree and sand dunes, Deaddvlei, Sossusvlei National Park, Namibia

Rise early for a truly magical morning in Namib-Naukluft National Park, entering the gates at sunrise—the best time to photograph the dunes as the soft light and long shadows reveal their dramatic curves and towering forms. This region is home to some of the world's highest free-standing dunes, creating an unforgettable desert backdrop.

As you explore Sossusvlei and the iconic Deadvlei, your private naturalist guide will share insight into the formation of the Namib Desert and the remarkable plants and wildlife that have adapted to thrive in these extreme conditions.

When you’re ready for a break, enjoy a picnic lunch beneath the shade of a camel thorn tree—a quiet moment in the heart of the desert.

Return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon at leisure. You may choose to explore the area, unwind with a good book, or connect with your guide to add an optional activity to enhance your stay.

Meals and selected local beverages are included.

    Travel Distance: approx. 120 km
    Travel Time: approx. 2 hours

  • Day 4: Namib Desert to Swakopmund

Today’s journey is one of Namibia’s most spectacular drives, heading northwest through the ever-changing scenery of Namib-Naukluft National Park. Along the way, admire the dramatic Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons, where rugged cliffs and deep gorges cut through the desert landscape.

As you approach the Atlantic, arrive in the port town of Walvis Bay, where the desert meets the ocean. Continue north to Swakopmund, a charming seaside town known for its cooler coastal climate, relaxed atmosphere, and attractive waterfront.

After check-in, enjoy free time this afternoon to explore at your own pace—stroll the promenade, browse local shops, or simply breathe in the fresh ocean air.

Meals and selected local beverages are included.

    Travel Distance: approx. 386 km
    Travel Time: approx. 5 hour

  • Day 5: Discover Beautiful Damaraland

Continue your journey today as you travel north and east into the spectacular wilderness of Damaraland—one of Namibia’s most scenic and least-travelled regions. En route, pass the towering Brandberg Massif, home to Namibia’s highest peak at 2,573 metres, and keep watch for wildlife as you absorb the vast, open landscapes that define this remote corner of the country.

Damaraland is a place of striking contrasts: burnt-orange valleys, table-topped mountains, dramatic rock formations, and unusual desert vegetation that seems sculpted by time. The sheer space and silence here deliver a true sense of Africa’s wilderness—raw, authentic, and unforgettable.

If time allows this afternoon, your guide will introduce you to nearby highlights, including the remarkable Twyfelfontein rock engravings—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—offering a fascinating glimpse into Namibia’s ancient human history. If not, there will be ample time to explore this extraordinary site tomorrow.

Meals and selected local beverages are included.

  • Day 6: Damaraland Adventures

The Bridge, a natural arch at Spitzkoppe, Namibia

After an early breakfast, set off on an exhilarating 4x4 excursion to explore the rugged beauty of Damaraland. This remote region is famed for its desert-adapted wildlife, and your guide will focus on tracking the area’s highlights—especially the elusive desert-adapted elephants, if they are moving through the region at the time. Along the way, discover hidden valleys, dry riverbeds, and the remarkable natural resilience that defines life in the desert.

The afternoon is yours to tailor to your travel style. Choose between a scenic guided bush walk, an afternoon nature drive, or a visit to Twyfelfontein (if it was not visited the previous day), where ancient rock engravings offer an unforgettable cultural dimension to the wilderness.

Meals and selected local beverages are included.

    Travel Distance: approx. 50 km
    Travel Time: approx. 3 hours

  • Day 7: Drive to Etosha National Park

wo big male African lion (Panthera leo) in early morning light, Kalahari desert, South Africa

Today you continue north toward Etosha National Park, Namibia’s premier wildlife destination and one of Africa’s most celebrated safari regions. Arrive in time to settle in and head out for an afternoon game drive with your private guide—your first taste of Etosha’s exceptional wildlife viewing across open plains and arid savannah.

At the heart of the park lies the legendary Etosha Pan—a vast, shimmering salt pan stretching approximately 120 km (75 miles). So large it can be seen from space, this extraordinary landscape inspired the park’s name, which translates to the “Great White Place.” The pan and surrounding waterholes draw a remarkable variety of wildlife, creating unforgettable safari moments.

You will stay at Etosha Oberland Lodge, set within a 5,500-hectare private game reserve that shares a 10 km boundary with Etosha National Park. Open to the savannah, the lodge offers a true sense of space and serenity, with wildlife often visible around the property—perfect for relaxed safari luxury between game drives.

Meals and selected local beverages are included.

    Travel Distance: approx. 500 km
    Travel Time: approx. 5h25 hours

  • Day 8: Wildlife of Etosha National Park

Begin the day with an exhilarating morning guided game drive into Etosha National Park, exploring its open plains and waterholes in search of the park’s exceptional variety of wildlife and birdlife. Return to the lodge for a late lunch, then enjoy time to unwind—perhaps with a refreshing swim and a quiet moment in the Namibian sun.

Later, head out again for an afternoon game drive, returning before sunset (either exiting the park or finishing closer to the lodge, as arranged with your guide).

For guests who prefer a deeper safari immersion, you may choose to spend the entire day in the park. Enjoy lunch at Okaukuejo Rest Camp overlooking the waterhole, or opt for a picnic at a particularly productive waterhole—one of Etosha’s best ways to watch wildlife at close range.

Back at camp, the evening is perfect for relaxed game viewing at the floodlit waterhole while enjoying dinner—and lingering a little longer as animals continue to visit after dark.

Meals and selected local beverages are included.

    Travel Distance: approx. 50 km
    Travel Time: approx. 3 hours

  • Day 9: Return to Windhoek

After an early breakfast, begin your comfortable journey back to Windhoek, travelling south through Namibia’s central highlands and rolling commercial farmlands. Enjoy the changing scenery along the way, with lunch included en route.

On arrival, you will be transferred to Windhoek International Airport for your onward flight. For smooth logistics, departure flights should be scheduled no earlier than 18:00 (6:00 pm) to allow sufficient time for the drive.

If preferred, a final overnight stay in Windhoek can be arranged at an additional cost for guests who wish to depart the following day.

    Travel Distance: approx. 468 km
    Travel Time: approx. 4.5 hours

  • Day 10: Arrival Home

    Journey home:

What food should I try in Namibia?
Culinary Influences

Namibian cuisine is shaped by indigenous traditions and strong German and Southern African influences—so you’ll find everything from hearty game dishes and fire-cooked stews to excellent breads, sausages, and café culture in coastal towns.

Local Classics to Taste
  • Kapana – Namibia’s iconic street food: freshly grilled meat, usually served with spicy seasoning and a simple salsa.

  • Biltong & droëwors – cured meat and dried sausage snacks (often made with beef or game).

  • Oshifima / mahangu pap – a staple porridge (often served with meat or sauces), widely enjoyed across the country.

  • Potjiekos – a slow-cooked, fire-style stew (comfort food at its best).

  • Seasonal treats (when available): Lüderitz oysters, kabeljou fish, and omajowa mushrooms after rains in parts of the country.

What drinks should I try in Namibia?
  • Windhoek Lager / Tafel Lager – classic Namibian beers and a big part of local culture.

  • Oshikundu (Ontaku) – a traditional fermented millet drink found especially in northern Namibia (often homemade/market-sold).

Dining on safari

At many lodges and camps, meals are typically included and combine international standards with local flavours. If you have dietary requirements, it’s best to share them in advance so your hosts can cater comfortably.

If you tell me which stops are on your itinerary (e.g., Swakopmund, Sossusvlei, Etosha, Lüderitz), I’ll tailor a “What to Try Where” list for each location.

Getting There & Getting Around: Namibia
Flights to Namibia

Most international travellers reach Namibia via Windhoek (WDH). From the UK and much of Europe, routes typically connect through major hubs such as Johannesburg or Cape Town, with onward flights into Windhoek. We’ll recommend the most efficient, comfortable connections based on your itinerary, travel style, and preferred flight times.

Time Zone

Namibia operates on GMT+2, which makes travel from the UK and Europe relatively smooth—especially compared to long-haul destinations with larger time differences. You can settle in quickly and start enjoying the journey without heavy jet lag.

Getting Around Namibia

Namibia is best experienced overland, because the landscapes are part of the adventure.

  • Private driver-guide (recommended for comfort): Relax and enjoy the scenery while your guide handles the long distances, navigation, and local insights—ideal for a seamless, premium experience.

  • Self-drive (popular with European travellers): Namibia is one of Africa’s best self-drive destinations, with good main roads and clear routes. Some areas include gravel roads and remote stretches, so a 4×4 may be recommended depending on your itinerary.

  • Flights & scenic air options: For time-saving between far regions, domestic flights and scenic flights can be arranged on certain routes—perfect for travellers wanting to maximise time and elevate the experience.

At Ngwenya African Travel, we manage the logistics end-to-end—airport transfers, vehicles, route planning, guides, and flight connections—so you can explore Namibia comfortably, safely, and worry-free.

Entry Requirements & Health Information: Namibia
Passport & Visa Information

Before travelling to Namibia, please ensure your passport:

  • Is valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival, and

  • Has at least 3 blank pages for entry/exit stamps.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Some travellers are visa-exempt, while others may need to arrange a visa in advance or use Namibia’s Visa-on-Arrival / online application system (where applicable). We recommend confirming the latest requirements via your government’s official travel advisory and Namibia’s official visa platform.

Vaccination & Health Guidelines

There is no yellow fever risk in Namibia, but proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required if you are arriving from, or transiting (often 12+ hours) through, a country with yellow fever risk.

We recommend you:

  • Stay up to date with routine vaccinations, and

  • Consult your healthcare provider or a travel clinic for personalised advice (including guidance on malaria prevention for certain regions of Namibia).

For general guidance, reputable resources include CDC Travelers’ Health and TravelHealthPro (UK).

At Ngwenya African Travel, we’re happy to support your pre-travel planning so you can arrive well-prepared for a safe, smooth, and worry-free Namibia journey.
